“It’s a curation of what we love and what inspires us,” Mary-Kate said.
The Row’s first west coast home marks a major milestone in the history of the brand. The company was founded in 2006 by co-founders and designing duo, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen who opened the luxury brand’s first flagship store in Los Angeles as a nod to their roots where both sisters and brand were originally born.
The 3,800 sq ft residential-style store designed in collaboration with architect David Montalba and interior designer Courtney Applebaum, populated the space with a slew of iconic mid-century furniture sourced from local purveyors JF Chen, Galerie Half, Blackman Cruz and Thomas Hayes Gallery alongside paintings by artists John Tweddle and Sergej Jensen. Furnishings include a Jean Prouve dining table, Fortuny floor lamp, Poul Kjaerholm coffee tables accompanying Paul McCobb woven leather chairs and a collection of various vintage jewelry and objects -in addition to the brand’s full product line of women’s wear and accessories — all of which are for sale.
“For us, we very much wanted this to feel like a home. It is our first home, and it’s very California and what California means to us since we were born and raised here. When we go into other cities, we want the stores to feel like those places as well ” said Ashley,
The simplicity pulsates mutually in connection to clean lines in a contemporary low key setting designed to enhance the individual’s needs and to elevate the quality of easy living; this philosophy permeates within The Row’s collections. The overall design of the space is synonymous with the brand’s retail vision. A warm yet inviting atmosphere rich in subtle neutral tones and textures-perfect for lounging and shopping which often tends to feel like home. Home indeed.
